The Beginning of the End

We all sat at breakfast this morning and it appeared we were all having the same thoughts.  With the end of the Trans Labrador Highway and the ferry trip away from mainland Canada, it was clear that we were facing the beginning of the end.  Including today, we only had 6 route note pages left.  That means that I only have six days left in the saddle before I have to say goodbye to my trusted steed and lock it away in a crate for a few more weeks.

To add the the low feeling, the weather was not on our side.  The cloud was low and we rode through the mist to the ferry terminal, where we sat first on the road and then in lane 6 awaiting our boat.

It was a very small ferry terminal and a fishing port so there was at least some interesting stuff to look at while waiting.  The fishing boats were unloading and it was great to see the catch being landed.

The ferry came through the mist and it took a while to load, we were on last and secure.  The crossing took just over an hour and in the meantime it started to rain.

Now we are back on the tarmac, Red Leader is back with us (he was much faster than us on the gravel and went it alone with a smile on his face).  He now has a totem pole fitted and has gone native

We took the coastal drive from the port down to Rocky Harbour and it would have been a lovely ride had the rain not been torrential.  Lobster pots all along the side of the road and some lovely little fishing villages.  We were dressed up in waterproofs and the wind was blowing off the sea.

We stopped at a restaurant at the side of the road and walked out after 50 minutes having not yet been served the food we had ordered.  We didn't bother paying for the coffee either, they probably didn't notice.

We arrived at Rocky Harbour in the rain, it's a lovely little place and the hotel is great.  We have live music tonight so we are all giving it a bit of yee hah!

Off to Tinity tomorrow, the oldest settlement in North America apparently and still preserved.  A 355 mile ride and I'm going to enjoy every minute, rain or not.
