A long run into Montreal today. 325 miles and an early start again. Got 150 miles under our belt before breakfast which was a bit hit and miss with our collection of attempts in French. Most of us got what we thought we ordered. We all got a pot of something that looked and smelled like Pate with our eggs and bacon? Gary ate his but not me.
We all met up about 100 miles out of Montreal and rode in together. That was pretty good and not as bad coming in through Montreal as we all thought. It was very very hot and had to fight our way through road works but it was worth it. A night out in town with some civilisation and a bit of culture. Lovely hotel, great bed and air con that actually works without sounding like a truck in your bedroom.
We had to do the traditional thing and climb all the steps to the top of Mount Royal just to see the view. (I was knackered)
The difference in architecture around the city is brilliant an all shoved in together. Reminds me of London a lot.
Had a wander round tonight and just mingled with the crowd. It seems there is an arts and design thing going on at the moment. Came across this fashion show, where a lot of the clothes looked like dental floss
and also this First Nation music and displays.
A great time was had by all. Thanks to Globebusters for managing to make the route change at such short notice with such a great hotel.
Have to be out of here at 6am tomorrow though as we have to be in Quebec City for tyre changes at 9am ready for our trip along the Trans Labrador Highway.
Looks great
ReplyDeleteHave your current tyres still got the mould marks on them?
Still same old rubbish back here.
interest rate still 0.5%.
you are going a lot of miles hope it doesn't feel like one big dash across the country.
Still green with envy
Jim
looks absolutely lovely so glad you are having such a great time
ReplyDeleteGlad things are still going well for you. When you know where you will be staying in the Trinity Bay area of Newfoundlound let me know. I have friends whose family live in Whitewater-Trinity Bay and would love to greet you. Good luck on the gravel roads in Labrador. You are seeing more of Canada than I've seen in over 40 years. Can't wait to hear about your impressions.
ReplyDeleteJim. Tyres are in great shape, we had Road Pilot 3's put on before we came out and the 4000 miles done so far don't seem to have made much of an impact on them. They are in the van to bring back to the UK as long as nobody breaks down and the bikes take the space. The middle bit of Canada has seemed like a bit of a slog to get across but until you are here you just don't realise just how little is in the middle.
ReplyDeleteCarolynne - I will email you the address of the hotel we are at in Trinity Bay it will be nice to meet your friends.
