Close Encounter

Its our last real day of riding and we had a very early start as the boat docked at 6am.  Some were up very early for breakfast on the boat, others of us didn't bother and got breakfast on the road.  We were promised a beautiful ride and we were not disappointed.  If you are ever in Canada, hire a bike a ride the Cabot trail.  They are right, round every bend there is another view more spectacular than the last.  We stopped taking photos after a while as nothing can show anybody else what its like and we will never forget.

Our first stop was for fuel at Wreck Cove General Store, right out of a movie scene

The view of the day had to be this one

it could have been a hundred others but it would have filled the blog with photos that didn't mean much to anybody else.  Andy obviously quite liked this spot too as we found him looking out to sea contemplating life.

Yesterday when we saw the moose, Paul missed out by about 5 minutes turning up just as they went back into the woods.  Today he was rewarded with a close encounter of his own, he was 5 minutes ahead of us and we did not get the experience.  Paul saw the moose and parked up, got off his bike to get a photo.  The moose didn't seem to know where to go and looked a bit frightened so Paul backed off.  The moose then crossed the road between him and his bike and he was able to get a great "My bike with a moose" shot.  I am very jealous

We have had a great day and stopped a lot, either to take photos or to pop into souvenir shops or tea shops.  The sun has shone, the road is brilliant and we all have big smiles.  The accommodation tonight is just outside town but with a great view from the window

With the sun shining, we took the opportuity to use the bikes as a washing line just one last time

and as there were no local restaurants we had a last BBQ and campfire

This outdoor stuff is great but I just wish there weren't so many bugs that eat you as you eat your dinner.

We are already packed up ready for the bikes to go to Cargo and we just have a ride into Halifax tomorrow to drop them off (hopefully all will go well but we have not yet received confirmation that they are waiting for us).  It is very sad that I will have to say goodbye after riding nearly every day for 5 weeks, I will miss it, it has been brilliant.

  1. So glad the sun shone and you got the full experience of the Cabot Trail, it can be misty sometimes and not see anything. Hope all goes well tomorrow and you can get the bikes on their way early and get tuesday to look around Halifax. You must go up Signal Hill for the view. Looking forward to seeing you bright an early Thursday morning
