Celebrations

Today has been a bit of an anti climax.  Yesterday we were all on a high for reaching Cape Spear, today we are not on our bikes but we haven't finished.  We had a slow start but found a great place for breakfast, voted best breakfast in 2011 and yes I'd give it my vote too.

St Johns is probably not as cosmopolitan as I'd thought it would be and probably a bit lost in the past

it does have the most fantastic natural harbour though and I can see why it was where people settled all those years ago

we did go out to Quidi Vidi (thats nearly as bad a name as WaWa).  Unfortunately it was not a good place to paddle, so as yet we have not paddled in the Atlantic.

it was a very odd place indeed.  The micro brewery was interesting and the amount of beer going out of the place meant its not going under any time soon.  We also visited a very very odd pub indeed, run by a bit of an excentric to say the least.  The smell when you walked through the door put you off but curiosity keeps you going just to look at the place.  The collection of "stuff" is just incredible, as are the old school chairs and tables and the plastic table cloths.

This evening has been spent having dinner and celebrating our west to east journey.  The food was superb even though it took us about 2 hours to get served, the place was packed.  The first time I've eaten lobster and had to have lessons from Craig as to how to get the thing open without making a complete mess of it.

Today was Barbaras birthday so we celebrated that as well and had all chipped in for a gift and a card.  We had waited all that time with no food and decided to hand out presents, no sooner had we done that but the food got served.

Tomorrow we ride WEST, how can that be?  A late start and a short hop just 80 miles to Argentia where we catch the overnight ferry to North Sydney in Nova Scotia.  We land very early on Sunday morning and will then ride the famous Cabot Trail.
